Fiumicino airport opened its new system for baggage handling in transit that, according to the Secretary to the Prime Minister Gianni Letta, represents the resumption of the Italian economy.
The plant, built in just four months of work, spread over two floors, on a total area of over 7,000 square meters and integrates all the main functions of a sorting system. Purpose of the system is to have an automatic system for monitoring and handling operation of passenger baggage in transit, so far it was done manually by handlers and therefore there were higher operating costs for service companies on the ground.
The brain structure is the sorting system of Elsag Datamat MBHS (Multisorting Baggage Handling System), based on cross-belt technology, that can handle a flow of 6,000 bags / hour.
The movement of the loop plant and strip of carts is designed and manufactured by Motor Power Company. The partnership with Elsag Datamat born thanks to the capabilities of our company to make technological innovation, demonstrated by the fact that for the first time it creates a sorting system with direct drive technology. Motor Power Company achieves traction system installation using the linear motor SKA DDL and moves through gearless motoroller, the bidirectional ribbon for cargo, transport and sorting of baggage to the assigned destination.
Our technology brings real advantages either due to the introducing of direct drive and on the possibility of signals wireless transfer, the increase of sorting throughput and on the low sound emission.
